Ask Veda

Ask about your own work — what's waiting on you, what someone said, what's on the page in front of you — and get an answer with its sources.

On this page

Two ways to ask

The box at the bottom of Home in the app. Type or press the microphone — the box suggests questions as you look. Every chat is kept in the sidebar under Recents, grouped into Today, Yesterday and Earlier; open one to carry on.

The card. Double-tap the Veda key with no text box in focus (on a web page, a list, the desktop) and a small card opens, listening. Say your question and tap once, or just type. The card also knows the window you were looking at, so "what's on this page?" and "summarise this email" work.

Questions about Veda

Ask Veda also knows Veda: how a feature works, why the key isn't doing anything, which key you've set, which apps are excluded, what a plan costs. It answers from these help pages and from your current settings on this computer (settings and permissions only — never your text), and tells you exactly where to change something.

Follow-ups

  • The card shows every turn of its chat, newest at the top. Close it and open it again within twenty minutes and the same chat continues.
  • Double-tap again while the card is open to ask the next question out loud, or use the mic button.
  • New chat in the card's footer starts fresh.

What it answers from

  • What Veda remembers — see Memory. Veda looks for the people, places and times your question names, then reads the matching messages.
  • The window in front of you — for the card, read when you ask. A question about "this page" is answered from the page alone. For apps that draw their own text (code editors, terminals, design tools), a Mac asks for Screen Recording the first time; Veda reads the text from a picture of that one window and never saves or sends the picture.
  • Your calendar, when a calendar is connected — "what's on tomorrow?", "when's my call with Priya?". See Meetings.

Every answer cites its sources as chips underneath; click one to see exactly what Veda read. If nothing matches, it says so rather than guessing.

A remembered chat that only shares a word with your question (a different "costing", in a different thread) is left out when the page in front of you answers it. Name the person, the app or the time — "what did Priya say about the costing?" — to bring memory back in.

Good questions

  • What's waiting on me?
  • What did Priya ask me?
  • What did I promise this week?
  • Catch me up on Slack today
  • What's on this page?
  • What did we decide about shipping terms?

Privacy

Your question and the matching messages go to the AI to write the answer; nothing else does, and the AI keeps nothing. Anything that looks like a key, card number or password is replaced with [redacted] first. Chats are stored in the encrypted vault on your computer and go when you forget them. With memory off, chats aren't kept at all.

Each question counts as one AI request. Asking by voice is free on top of that — your voice is turned into text on your computer.
