Memory

Veda can remember the conversations it sees — who said what, where, when — in an encrypted vault on your computer, so Ask Veda and Brief have something to work from.

What it remembers

With memory on, Veda keeps the conversations it reads: chats and email threads, the people in them, and the names and words you use. Each message is kept with who wrote it, where (the app and the channel or thread), and when.

Memory is on unless you turn it off. Open Veda and click Memory in the sidebar. Under Remember, choose how it collects:

  • When Veda is used — only the conversations you use Veda in, and what you send there.
  • Always on — also the chat or email window in front of you, every few seconds while you're at the keyboard. It stops when you're idle, on a locked screen, in Low Power Mode, and in any app you've excluded.

Keep for sets how long conversations and results are kept — 30 days, 90 days (the default) or a year. Older ones are deleted on their own.

Trackers and documents are never collected in passing; only when you use Veda there.

What it never reads

Password fields, private and incognito windows, a locked screen, adult sites, banking and finance sites (unless you switch them on), and any app or website you exclude. These are checked before anything is read, not after.

Choose which apps and websites Veda remembers in Settings → Privacy: switch an app off and Veda never remembers conversations there, though it still writes for you in it. Add your own sites under Your sites.

People

Memory → People lists everyone Veda has seen you talk with. A person's page shows:

  • About — a few lines Veda writes from your conversations with them: what they work on with you, what they've asked for, how they communicate. Refreshed once a day or after ten new messages, or with Refresh.
  • How you write to them — learned from your own messages to them, used every time you write to that person. Edit the notes and Veda stops rewriting them.
  • Your messages to them — the evidence, folded away.

Tell Veda on any page takes a plain sentence — "Daniel is a client, keep it formal" — and proposes the change before applying it. Same person as… merges two names for one person.

Pause, forget, delete

  • Pause memory for 5, 15 or 30 minutes, an hour, or until you resume — from the Memory page or Settings → Privacy. Nothing new is remembered while paused; what's there stays.
  • Forget the last hour / today removes what was collected in that time.
  • Any conversation, message or person can be deleted from its page.
  • Forget everything wipes the vault and makes a new key.

From the menu bar or tray

Click the Veda icon for two quick controls:

  • Exclude … from memory — for the app you were just in, by name: "Exclude Slack from memory". Click it again (Include Slack in memory) to undo.
  • Pause memory — shown when memory is Always on. Pick how long; Resume starts it again.

Where it lives

In memory/ inside Veda's folder on your computer, encrypted (AES-256-GCM). The key that unlocks it is kept in your Mac's Keychain (on Windows, locked to your Windows account). Before anything is kept, Veda replaces things that look like secrets — API keys, card numbers, passwords, bank account numbers — with [redacted]. Nothing in it goes to Veda's server. When you ask a question or make a brief, only the matching messages go to the AI with your question, and the answer comes back; the AI keeps none of it.
