Writing style & learning

Open Settings → Writing style. At the top is Veda writes as you: one line built from your answers to About you, plus Your rules. Click Edit (or Tell Veda about you the first time) to change your answers. Below it is What Veda has learned, which Veda builds from how you actually write.

#About you

Pick what fits; skip anything you like. Tap a selected pill again to clear it.

• What do you do? — Developer, Designer, Product/Manager, Founder, Sales, Support, Marketing, Student, Teacher or Other.
• Who do you usually write to? — any of Teammates, Clients, Managers, Customers, Friends.
• Your tone, Reply length and Emoji.
• Languages you write in — pick any, or + Add your own. Mixed languages are kept as you write them.

#Your rules

Things Veda must always or never do, in your own words. In the Veda writes as you card, click Add (or Edit) next to Your rules. It starts empty. For example:

Sign emails as Alex, never Alexander.
Say "PR", not "pull request".
Keep ticket IDs, file paths and code exactly as typed.

These win over your About you answers and over anything Veda has learned, and Veda never edits them.

#How learning works

Veda learns from your edits. After Veda puts text in a field, it keeps an eye on that field for about a minute. If you change its wording before sending, what you actually sent is saved as a sample — "this is how I'd put it." Text Veda wrote that you sent unchanged isn't learned from, so Veda never learns from itself. Very short snippets and pasted documents are skipped.

Once enough new samples have built up — 20 by default — Veda writes a short profile of your style in one AI call. The profile goes into every later request, so it gets closer to you over time.

The Learning card on the Writing style page shows how many edits Veda has saved and how many more until it updates. Learn now runs a pass straight away.

#Settings on this page

Under Details:

• Your name — add other names or @handles after commas, so Veda can tell your messages from theirs.
• Reply in their language and My language — see Reply in their language.
• Update after — how many new edits before Veda refreshes what it knows, from 5 to 100.

Veda never learns from password managers, or from any app you exclude from memory on the Privacy page.

The Learning switch turns learning off entirely. Veda always picks the tone — casual, friendly-professional or professional — by reading the app and the conversation.

#What Veda has learned

Until the first learning pass it's empty — the page shows Nothing learned yet and how many samples Veda has so far. Nothing made up is sent in your name.

After that it's written by Veda, in plain sentences you can read — "Short sentences.", "No greeting unless the thread already has one." You can:

• Edit it by hand. (The next learning pass may rewrite it — put anything permanent in Your rules.)
• From the … menu next to the heading: Reset what Veda learned — clear it and start learning again — or Forget saved edits — delete the saved samples, keeping what's learned.

To wipe everything Veda has learned in one go, use Forget everything learned on the Privacy page. About you stays.

#Where it lives

About you, your notes, the profile and the samples are files in ~/Library/Application Support/Veda/ on a Mac and %AppData%\Veda\ on Windows. Samples are sent to the AI only during a learning pass, to write the profile; after that, the profile travels inside each request. None of it is kept on Veda's server.

Learning passes don't count towards your AI requests.
